A downloadable game for Windows

After agreeing to take on what seems like a mundane story about the unique city and its planned road bridge, journalist James Maynard finds himself uncovering a disturbing underbelly to the local customs, and a hideous core to the notion of Venetian pride.

Not even the might of Mussolini can truly kill the Carnival.

Carnival is an atmospheric folk horror point-&-click set in a time of European upheaval, where the past and the future collide.

Developed by Beyond Booleans, creator of Abscission, winner of three AGS awards.

This is a demo of the full game, which will feature evolving relationships with NPCs, inventory puzzles and multiple endings.

New update released on 13.4.2024, version 1.1.0 - some fixes regarding visiting previously visited areas and audio glitches when loading games.

Nice game

Thank you! I love the thumbnail :D

Loved the game, nice work!!

I really like your games, and this one is no exception.
(I noticed a problem with the text in a couple of places, *???*)

This should hopefully be fixed in the new version, it was an issue with the font. Thank you for playing, glad you like it!

I really liked this a lot! Incredibly underrated and well done. I'm really intrigued by the story and I can't wait for the full release!

I'm not an English speaker, so I played the game while translating, but I really like the intelligent style of the main character's monologues during scene changes.
I also enjoyed walking through the pixel-art Venice.
I've never actually been to Venice, but I know famous places like the cafes in Piazza San Marco watched over by winged lions, so I'm glad those places were set there!
I'm curious about all the foreshadowing that's scattered all over the place.

Awesome, glad you like it! Watashi no tsuma wa nihonjin desu, so I will ask her to translate hehe :)

Very nice demo!  It definitely left me wanting more (and worried about the protagonist's condition!), which is what a good demo will do.  It's been a LONG time since I've played The Last Door games, but it reminds me a bit of that--the 2nd one especially.  Can't wait to see all the different locations in Venice, I'm very intrigued at what will unfold here.  And the little girl who was being made fun of and called a "witch" really tugged at my heart strings!

Glad you liked it! Yes I loved the Last Door games too, very glad to be mentioned in the same sentence as them :)

Nice this was very good demo I liked this pixel style game and looks good anyway well done!

Thank you! Much appreciated.

Great demo! I spotted a small issue: the quote on the flyer should be "Rimanere «buoni» tutta la vita: questo dà la misura della vera grandezza di un'anima!"

You've spotted my complete lack of Italian haha. Thank you I will update in next version :)

looks SO good!

Thank you! :)

Great demo, I'm looking forward to the final game. Are you still working on M. Slazak at the same time?

Yes, Slazak will take longer due to the level of detail and style, but I have a lot of stories I want to get done so I will do some low-res games alongside!

So this isn't the full version?

Just a demo for now, the full version will be released later this year. Apologies I will clarify on the page.

Ah, thanks. This is one of the most intriguing settings for an adventure game I've seen in ages.

Thank you! Yes I went to Venice years ago for my honeymoon and it was hugely creepy, perfect for some uncanny horror.
