October 13th, 1979.

After solving another harrowing case, detectives Will Stanhope and Ben Drummle head to what should have been a relaxing rest stop at a road-side diner in Massachusetts.

The evening descends into a nightmare when a brutally injured man and his son stagger in, pointing back into the shadows towards a 'gray man' with a shimmering smile...

Snarl is a short pixel-horror point & click prequel to both Abscission and Teeth of Glass, with two different endings.

Thank you to Tomas Asimov for the soundtrack, and Rose Prytherch for the cover art.

Couple of issues:

1) In the initial conversation with the tall man, there's a typo in one of your responses ("you're" should be "your").

2) Right after the initial conversation with the tall man, as soon as you encounter the strange urns, if you walk to the right you can still interact with the truck/motorbike; I presume that's not intended.

Good game.

Ah, there's always some that slip through :D Thanks, I am going to add a small fix this weekend so will add these.

I just played through this and got both endings. I think I still need to replay to try out different paths in the conversations and perhaps see some more bad outcomes (?). Really great game, and I absolutely love the connections to your other games. The characters are very well written, and the puzzles demanding without being frustrating.  Oh, and it's so polished! Sound and music and small animations all contribute to immersion. Recommended!

Thank you, that's high praise from an AGS legend, much appreciated :D

This was a fantastic play! I loved the art, the characters, the story, the puzzles, everything! I am delighted to find out that it’s actually a prequel! I will definitely check out the others. Awesome work!

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it, and hope you enjoy my other games.

Thank you for coming back to create more free small game jam releases expanding the world of stanhope between bigger releases. This has bags of atmosphere, and instantly engages you in its dark tale. Thank you for Abscission & Carnival. Your releases make my day.

No problem! I intend to keep making short free games alongside my commercial releases, as I enjoy making both :D

Hey beyondbooleans, my name is Joshua. I have not played Abscission, but IF there is another Joshua in that one (like this and Teeth of Glass), I hereby throw my hat into the ring to be put into the next game.

I am absolutely in love with these games and the amazingly connected story and I can't see where it goes. Keep it up.

Haha THE HIDDEN JOSHUA THREAD :D

Thank you! :D

wasn’t expecting the game to be this good, nice one man. I would really love to play more of your games!

Thank you for playing!

I have found my way to Snarl and boy was it a ride!

I really liked the harder puzzles, but it left me randomly clicking for quite a while. As much as I like a challenge, I thought that some "locks" felt a little arbitrarily.

Yet don't let that stop you from making those puzzles harder! Maybe just add some hints eluding what to do next or what you missed for dumb old people like me :D

Hope to get Abscission and Carnival in the near future~

Puzzle design is always interesting... trying to pitch them just right is very difficult! I will keep experimenting :D

If anyone is on the fence about playing this game I'm here to help. STOP thinking about it and DO IT! Easily a new-born classic! I streamed it on Twitch and my community was thrilled! If you want to check it out video is attached here :)

Awesome, thank you!

It's always a great feeling finding such a talented dev around here, not sure why I wasn't following you already... One thing is certain though, this would have been a best-seller if this was released back in the day. I'm definitely checking your other games soon... Uh, I also made a video as well... >.>

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the continuing adventures of the Gray Man...

Very well done for this type of game.  A few missing words and grammar errors, everything else was perfect.

Some always slip through! If you email me the mistakes at beyondbooleans@gmail.com I will fix :)

Full Game

Thank you! Much appreciated

wow
WOW great game! genuinely one of my favs so far. I WILL be playing the full games.

Thank you, I appreciate the playthrough :)

I LOVE IT I LOVE IT I LOVE IT SO MUCCHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! This is the best game I've played in a while, and I just replayed *best game ever* again! This game will quickly become a classic and if it doesn't my life is a lie. Top 1 best game of all time. New favorite game, no doubt.

Thank you! I'm glad you liked it so much :D

Nice game! Interesting story & creepy atmosphere. I like the npc drama when trapped in another dimension.

Thank you :D

I really love how this game's story intertwines with the story of Teeth of Glass! It made me really excited to see some of the characters from Teeth of Glass make a cameo in this game! What I also love about this game is the art style and the animations! Keep up the excellent work!

Thank you! The story isn't done yet either...

Wow what a game this was indeed! Amazing story telling indeed with great game mechanics and awesome artstyle, it is kind of shocking that this is for free! Made a video on it.

Thank you! Glad you like it :)

Tiny detail but the WC sign doesn't really fit if this is Massachusetts :) it would probably have a little stick figure of a man and a woman instead

Haha that's good to know! I'm from the UK :P I may sort this in an update!

After having played Anchorite and Glass of Teeth, I was fully invested in finding out more about the Grey Man - I loved the vibe with Snarl, kind of made me think about Stephen King's 'Mist' with a group of characters all locked up in a location with a terrifying entity just outside the doors.

MARRRRTHA!

Beyondbooleans is certainly bringing the point and click horror adeventures back - especially with Carnival having been released on Steam - this dev is working their socks off!

Loved the atmosphere, and looking forward to seeing the Grey man return...

Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Feel free to contact me at beyondbooleans@gmail.com if you wanted a Steam key for Carnival, I appreciate you covering my games over the last year :)

Not at all - I'll support indie developers by buying the game where I can, more of a time factor tbh - how long do you think a single playthrough of carnival would take? Might make it a series if more than 2 hours.

Thank you, but the offer stands if you change your mind!

It's about 3-4 hours usually, it depends on how thoroughly you dig into each conversation.

Vivaldi's flagging the download up as 'virus detected'. Doesn't do this with any of your other games, but will not allow me to download this one for love nor money. Isn't even an option to choose to trust it like normal. I'm pretty sure it's a false positive, but wanted to warn you/any Vivaldi users. I'll just try Chrome for now.

Ah ok, thank you for letting me know. I'll have a look at that, and also try getting the play-in-browser working.

No worries. Figured you'd wanna know! Also I don't think you're on Bluesky so I couldn't tag you, but I've been championing the absolute hell out of Abcission and now Carnival. I'm the director/lead developer of The Charnel House Trilogy, and co-developer of Richard & Alice, so I absolutely love seeing people like you guys keeping the AGS horror community not only alive, but at an obscenely good quality. Abcission was genuinely the best adventure game of 2023 for my money. Not far with Carnival yet but can see it being as much of a contender. Y'all are phenomenal.

Oh wow, thank you! I appreciate that a lot, your games are fantastic. Have you got anything else in the works?

I do, but not AGS stuff at the moment unfortunately, and I'm not allowed to talk about them quite yet!

Thanks for fixing this! Able to download it just fine now. <3

cool

Thank you for playing! Cool channel :)

:D you welcome in my hell :D

I love all your games! This one is so clever and well constructed. Thank you!

Thank you! Glad you like them :)

I really enjoyed playing this; it made me go back to the previous one to revisit the doctor story. I guess I should finally buy the first one to complete the narrative :)

Thank you :) Glad you enjoyed it.

Awesome!

Thank you for playing!
